The SAS Championship was honored at the annual Champions Tour Tournament Owners Association meetings as the 2009 "Most Improved Event." It received the honor on the basis of three new programs in 2009:

• Octagon Golf Insight Series - a panel discussion highlighting the current golf economic climate. Designed to educate current and potential corporate partners

• Linked to Green Networking Event - a networking event for area Chamber of Commerce affiliates from the 18th green of the SAS Championship following first round play.

• Communities in Schools of Wake County Art Display - recognition of the tournament charity through a large art display near the main entrance. Students submitted golf drawings and colorings for the showcase.

With the 10th anniversary coming up in September, the SAS Championship will aim for a continued improvement for sponsors and fans alike.
