Fred Funk

CARY, N.C. – Champions Tour major championship winners Fred Funk and Bernhard Langer will compete in the 2010 SAS Championship presented by Bloomberg Businessweek, tournament officials announced today. A Champions Tour golf event in its 10th year, the SAS Championship is being held at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, September 24 – 26.

“We are excited to add Fred Funk and Bernhard Langer to this year’s field,” said Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber. “These golfers have had great success throughout their careers and have won major championships on the Champions Tour this season.”

Funk began competing on the Champions Tour in 2006 while still ranked in the top 50 of the World Golf Rankings and has carded six victories on the tour. Last weekend, Funk won his third major championship on the Champions Tour at the JELD-WEN Tradition, his second victory at the event in three years. Funk also earned a victory at the U.S. Senior Open in 2009.

Langer was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001. A two-time Masters champion (1985, 1993) while a member of the PGA TOUR, Langer has competed on the Champions Tour since 2007. This season, Langer won the first two Champions Tour majors of his career in back-to-back events, The Senior Open Championship and the U.S. Senior Open Championship.
